See, for instance,&nbsp; S. Joseph Levine\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.learnerassociates.net\/proposal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guide for Writing a Funding Proposal<\/a>\u201d (updated April 5, 2015), Adam Pzreworski and Frank Salomon\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssrc.org\/publications\/view\/7A9CB4F4-815F-DE11-BD80-001CC477EC70\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">On the Art of Writing Proposals: Some Candid Suggestions for Applications to Social Science Research Council Competitions<\/a>\u201d (1995), and the Foundation Center\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/grantspace.org\/training\/courses\/introduction-to-proposal-writing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Introduction to Proposal Writing\u201d short courses<\/a>. And of course Sage has a<a href=\"https:\/\/us.sagepub.com\/en-us\/nam\/product\/grant%20proposals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> whole bunch of expensive books about grant-writing<\/a>; you can find them in the library or request them via interlibrary loan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">While a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.are.na\/shannon-mattern\/the-syllabus-p7j9cjyufoy\" target=\"_blank\">syllabus<\/a> could be traditionally or experimentally formatted, it should include, at minimum:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a <a href=\"https:\/\/ctl.upenn.edu\/resources\/syllabus\/writing-a-course-description\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">course description<\/a>;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an inclusion statement where you explain who you want to engage with the class: is this an undergraduate course, a class for adult learners at a public library, an online class for an intentional learning community or professional organization, etc.?;\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a description of the course structure: is this a weekly semester-long course, a month-long asynchronous online class, an intensive weekend workshop, a self-directed learning program, etc?;\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>five to seven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.edu\/sheridan\/teaching-learning-resources\/teaching-resources\/course-design\/establishing-learning-goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">learning goals<\/a>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a brief <a href=\"https:\/\/cft.vanderbilt.edu\/guides-sub-pages\/teaching-statements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">teaching statement<\/a>, where you explain your pedagogical methods;\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a set ofassignments\/milestones and in-class activities, and an explanation of which methods students will be deploying for each;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a schedule of readings\/resources \u2014 containing at least 20 sources \u2013 with contextual framing and light annotations, which will help students understand why particular texts were chosen, how they should engage with them, why they\u2019re sequenced as they are, etc.;\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>anything else worth mentioning, particularly regarding the methods involved in the class\u2019s construction and execution, and the methods students will practice\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A multimodal project should include, at minimum:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a 150-word abstract you might use to pitch your project for a conference or exhibition;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For tips on writing abstracts, see my \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/wordsinspace.net\/shannon\/2010\/08\/20\/abstracts-annotated-bibliographies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Abstracts and Annotated Bibliographies<\/a>\u201d and Amy Benson Brown, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.academiccoachingandwriting.org\/academic-writing\/academic-writing-blog\/ii-crafting-abstracts-to-define-your-articles-scope-and-significance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crafting Abstracts to Define Your Article\u2019s Scope and Significance<\/a>,\u201d <em>Academic Coaching &amp;
